Ethnography of caodaism

Is a Vietnamese monotheistic syncretic religion that retains many elements from Vietnamese folk religion such as ancestor worship,[citation needed] as well as "ethical precepts from Confucianism, occult practices from Taoism, theories of karma and rebirth from Buddhism

This tradition, unique culture, magically created by blending of different traditions and domains is decaying under modernization and flattening, which has also come to Vietnam from the rest of the world, after strenuous struggles for independence and uniqueness and freedom of the country. Just Vietnam, rich of China, rich of France, partially even of the United States, a nation I have visited and left me with a strong bittersweet feeling, there, still, is present something true, anciently constant, mine somehow.

On my trip I visited, Hindu temples, Buddhist temples, churches, mosques, yet the culture of caodaism, present almost exclusively in Vietnam, enchanted me. The iconography is unique, much simpler than Hinduism, to name one, or Islam, yet impressive and simple at the same time. A "church" of the case dai welcomes you with relevant phrases that immediately allow you to understand the welcoming and holistic nature of the religion, inclusive of others: "Vạn giáo nhất lý" means that all religions out there teach you the same core principles (to love your fellow people,..)

"Thuần chân vô ngã" says that the followers of Caodaism should always pursue the truth of this world, and to abandon the "self" (let go of greed or stuff like that, and become one with the world and the Gods
